It’s surprising how quickly and easily you can fall into a gym rut. One day you’re pumped to go to the gym and work your butt off, and the next day you find that you’re just dragging yourself to the gym as you dread that day’s workout. Before long, going to the gym feels more like a chore than a healthy release.
Below are some things that can help you break your love-hate relationship with the gym so that you’ve got nothing but love for it.
Try Something New
Continuing with the same old workouts week after week is just asking to hit a plateau. Not only will your body get used to going through the motions, your mind will too, and that takes the fun and the challenge out of your workouts. Switch things up. Instead of going for that same old run, go to a Zumba class to squeeze in some cardio while you learn some new moves. If you usually use just the weight machines, try some new exercises with dumbbells and barbells. There are endless ways to stay fit; you just have to find the ones that are right for you.
Grab New Gear
The gym isn’t a catwalk, we get it. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still look and feel good in what you’re wearing! I’m not suggesting that you go to the gym in black tie attire, but rather going out and splurging on some new gym clothes. Go indulge in a pair of those Lululemon pants you’ve had your eye on, or grab a few of those Victoria’s Secret sports bras that you’ve been dying to get. When we think we look good, we generally feel pretty good too, and who isn’t excited to show off their new workout gear?
Try a Waist Trainer
Not only will the waist trainer help your new gym clothes fit more smoothly, but it will help you with your workouts. Besides helping you keep your core tight, waist trainers help keep your posture in check. Good posture will help you keep proper form during your workout which in turn can help you prevent injuring or straining yourself.
Pick a Playlist
The gym can get really boring when all you have to listen to is the clanking of the weights and the grunting of the people lifting them. Make sure that you stay feeling pumped by creating a playlist of upbeat music that you know gives you a boost of energy and gets you hyped to hit the gym.
Going to the gym doesn’t have to be just one more thing that you check off of your mundane to-do list each day. By switching things up and incorporating new ideas and approaches into your exercise regime, you’ll find yourself looking forward to your gym sessions instead of finding them as appealing as a root canal.
