4 Tips to Help You Stay Healthy on a Budget

Keeping yourself healthy both regarding diet and exercise can be tough when you’re on a budget, but you can do it. It’s important that you make your health a priority all the time, so let’s take a look at some ways to help cut cost without sacrificing your health.

Coupons and Sales

You don’t have to be an extreme couponer in order to clip a few coupons to save yourself some money. Each individual coupon might not sound like much, but they add up, and any saved money is good saved money. Browse your local newspapers, grocery store ads, and even the internet for coupons. It’s also good to look at your grocery store’s ads to see what’s on sale now and what will soon be on sale that way you can plan when to buy those items if you know you’ll need them.

Make and Stick to Your List

Make a list of what you need to get at the grocery store, and stick to it. No impulse chips or candy purchases last minute at the register or anything like that. When you make your list and stick to it, you not only avoid grabbing a ton of junk food that you don’t need, but you save money by not making unexpected purchases that can affect your grocery budget.

Gym Membership

Some gym memberships can get crazy expensive with monthly fees plus an annual fee tacked onto that. You don’t have to get a membership to the fanciest gym in town in order to stay in shape. As long as there are some weights and equipment for you to do cardio, you’re set. Gyms like Planet Fitness charge only $10 per month. They have free weights, weighted machines, and plenty of cardio equipment. 

Gym Supplies

People don’t really realize that there are a lot of things you may need in addition to your gym membership. You need appropriate active wear so that you can safely move around the gym and complete your workouts, you need a special shaker/blender bottle if you have protein shakes/powered pre-workout/powdered amino acids, as well as any gym equipment of your own that you’d like to bring if your gym does not have it. Just like with grocery shopping, you’ll want to look for sales. Walmart always has active wear at fair prices as well as on sale, and Dick’s Sporting Goods usually has a sale rack as well.   Most sporting goods stores that you’ll see will give you the option to sign up for their e-mail newsletter which is a good idea because sometimes they’ll surprise you with a coupon. If you’re looking to buy supplements but don’t want to break the bank, stores like the Vitamin Shoppe are always having special deals that can help you save money.

Being on a tight budget can make things stressful, but staying healthy doesn’t have to be stressful. If you shop smart, you’ll easily be able to keep your diet and exercise habits on track.
