Being patient while you’re waiting for the results you’ve been working toward can be so frustrating, especially when you feel like your results aren’t showing up nearly as fast as they should be.
Supplement companies know and understand your frustration, and trust me when I say that they play upon that. They promise that their products will either give you your results faster or pack a punch in your workout to make it more effective, which in turn will help you see your results sooner.
Below are products from different companies, what they claim, and how accurate (or not) I found those claims to be.
Check it out!
BodyTech Electrolyte Fizz (Grape)
This is supposed to replenish your electrolytes to keep you from feeling sluggish during the day. BodyTech claims that this product is a “convenient high-performance energy drink that…stimulate[s] feelings of energy without caffeine or artificial stimulants. The powder mixed well, but that’s about the only good thing I found about this product. It tasted like I was drinking a crushed up multivitamin and didn’t taste at all like grape. I didn’t really notice any increase in my energy levels at all throughout the day when I used the Electrolyte Fizz.
Cellucor C4 (Pre-Workout; Watermelon)
Cellucor’s website says that their C4 “includes ingredients that help promote energy, pumps, and performance.” It includes beta alanine, creatine nitrate, and some caffeine. Beta alanine is an amino acid that promotes muscular endurance and creatine nitrate is provided for improved strength and pumps. When I first tried C4 I was blown away. I was so ready to take on the gym, and I really did. I ended up being at the gym twice as long as I usually am and I got so much accomplished. The price isn’t bad either, and there are Cellucor ambassadors that have specialized discount codes that you can use, and the Vitamin Shoppe sometimes has sales on the Cellucor products that they carry.
Cellucor Alpha Aminos (Watermelon)
Cellucor claims that their Alpha Amino powder “provides you with the power to perform and the fuel to recover.” It’s formulated with BCAAs and fourteen amino acids including their own 3X Leucine Matrix (L-Leucine, Leucine Nitrate, and Leucine Peptides) which helps reserve muscle glycogen reserves while reducing protein breakdown. I mix my Alpha Aminos with about ten ounces of cold water and drink them throughout my workout in order to help my muscles continue to push through my workout. I notice that my muscles aren’t as sore or exhausted during or after my workouts as they were when I used to workout without using aminos. Like the C4, the aminos aren’t too pricey and you can usually find a good deal to grab.
Next Step Fit n’ Full Shake (Swiss Chocolate, Vanilla, and Fresh Berries)
The Vitamin Shoppe claims that these shakes reduce hunger and cravings. I’ve had these shakes in all three flavors. They mix extremely well (I’ve only mixed them in milk) and I didn’t get any nasty clumps left behind after mixing. I did feel pretty full and satisfied after just one serving when I drank it just as a meal replacement during the day, but when I drank it after a workout I noticed that I was still a little bit hungry. The chocolate tastes like a heavenly chocolate malt, and the vanilla just tastes like any vanilla shake. I wasn’t as big a fan of the fresh berries though because it almost reminded me of berry flavored TUMS and take my word for it when I tell you that is not a flavor of drink that you want to be consuming.
Oh Yeah! Protein Bar (Birthday Cake)
These gluten free bars are supposed to fuel you with a combination of whey protein isolate and milk protein isolate. After eating this, I did feel pretty full since the bar is dense. Though it’s dense, it doesn’t feel like a chore to get through as you eat it. The birthday cake flavor is absolutely delicious and now I’m addicted to these bars, they’re my new favorite protein bar!
Quest Nutrition Bars
I’ve heard a lot of great things about these so I had to try them out. I ate these protein bars after a workout and they’re pretty satisfying. Both flavors taste good, but the two that I’ve had tasted a little salty which was weird to me since I tried Cookies n’ Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. They’re a little bit expensive for protein bars, but they do the job.
Shredz Thermogenic Protein Powder (Chocolate)
Chocolate flavor does taste good, but its flavor doesn’t “take [me] right back to Grandma’s kitchen” like the website promises. I did find that this is more difficult to mix than other protein powders that I’ve tried. When mixed with milk, the shake is way too heavy and thick for me to be able to finish. I thought maybe the milk fat content affected that, so I tried it with skim milk but ended up with the same result. Instead, I began mixing it with water and that was such an improvement. The chocolate flavor wasn’t diluted and I was actually able to finish the entire shake.
There’s no shame in using supplements to boost your progress, but make sure to do your research. There are a lot of great products out there that can help you reach your goals, it’s just a matter of trial and error to figure out what works best for your body.
